While humanity struggles with its first intergalactic war against an alien civilisation. The protagonist with the alien parasite goes on the run as part of a crew of smugglers, not wanting to be hunted down by the aliens or become a human lab-rat. The armed forces show up to turn her into a lab-rat and within hours an alien civilisation makes itself known and goes to war on humanity without any pre-amble.
